Kai Mason is a postdoctoral researcher in Professor Thomas Okell’s lab at the Podium Institute. His research focuses on identifying quantitative physiological markers of mental health conditions using neuroimaging data, and on investigating the relationships between mental health and participation in sport and physical activity.

Kai holds a first-class bachelor’s and master’s degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Leeds and a PhD in Physics and Biomedical Engineering from University College London. Before joining the Podium Institute, he completed a postdoctoral research position at the University of Calgary.

His previous research has included the development of a novel neuroimaging technique for the non-invasive measurement of fast electrical activity in the brain, as well as computational models exploring how learning may occur in cortical neural networks without changes in synaptic connectivity.
