My background is in neuroscience: I completed a BSc in Biomedical Sciences at University College London (UCL), followed by an MSc in Clinical and Therapeutic Neuroscience at the University of Oxford. I then spent a year as a Research Assistant in Clinical Neurosciences, working on stroke rehabilitation and using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to investigate brain changes associated with functional recovery. Alongside my academic interests, sport has always played a big part in my life. Having enjoyed a range of sports over the years, my current focus is on long-distance running and modern pentathlon.

Research Project

My DPhil research investigates how changes in brain and skull structure during adolescence influence the brain’s vulnerability to head impacts. Using MRI, alongside measurements of neck strength and optical coherence tomography (OCT), I aim to characterise these developmental changes and build computational models of the head and brain at different ages. By simulating impacts such as football heading, I hope to better understand how developmental differences influence the brain’s mechanical response and susceptibility to injury. Ultimately, this research aims to inform age-appropriate safety guidelines and heading policies in youth football.
