We are delighted to celebrate the recognition of Podium Institute members at the University of Oxford’s Vice-Chancellor’s Awards 2026, announced last week.

Congratulations to Professor Thomas Okell, who is part of the team behind the Graduate Programme in Brain Imaging, which was Highly Commended in the Teaching, Learning and Assessment category. This outstanding volunteer-led programme provides advanced MRI training and plays an important role in supporting the next generation of brain imaging researchers within the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences. Professor Okell joined the Podium Institute in October 2025 as Associate Professor of Technologies for Mental Health & Cognition.

We also celebrate Professor Constantin Coussios OBE FREng FMedSci, founding Director of the Podium Institute, whose work with OrganOx was recognised with the Commercialisation and Entrepreneurship Award. This pioneering technology has transformed organ preservation and contributed to saving more than 8,000 lives worldwide. Following its acquisition by Terumo in October 2025, OrganOx became the University of Oxford’s largest acquisition and the first to exceed £1 billion. Professor Coussios is the newly appointed Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Innovation at the University of Oxford and former Director of the Oxford Institute of Biomedical Engineering.

The Vice-Chancellor’s Awards recognise exceptional contributions from across the University of Oxford. This year’s recipients were honoured at a ceremony hosted by Professor Irene Tracey, Vice-Chancellor CBE FRS FMedSci, on 4th June at the Schwarzman Centre’s Sohmen Concert Hall. Congratulations to everyone recognised.
